A simple song much like every other cept this time I tried layering some more tracks over it, so there’s some bass, lead, singing, a riff and the rhythm playing. I came up with the riff bit first whilst watching ‘stenders, the rest came as I was bored watching friends. Lyris as always are crap :)

A good finger picking song, originally called “Maybe I Lied”, I decided to change it to fit with the cover image used (Created by Larry). I’d like to re-record all these tracks one day with some decent lyrics, singing and maybe not have the dodgy mis-timed finger picking. trouble is Elliot is mostly lazy … Mostly.

Year: 2002

One of my favourite songs that I’ve ever written because it seems complete. I remember the original versions that the singing was very similar to Placibo but gladly I managed to change away from that (still there a little). The chords are mostly played with the e strings open which gives it a nice ring, would probably sound pretty sweet on a 12 string, but then what doesn’t.

Year: 2003

Not a bad acoustic song, could probably of done with a bit more work but the way I liked to record back in the day was to try it a few times then give up, go to the pub and play pool. I found that way i could play pool and then, wait what was the question?

I found a couple of versions of this track most of which sucked because of the poor singing because i couldn’t get the right key for it. Not entirely sure what the song is about but it contains my usual lyrics of “in my room”, at least it has lyrics and a nice little riff into the chorus.

For reference the AMP in the picture is a Marshall JCM900 with an A Lead Cabinet. I usually have the reverb aroud 6, lead gain aroud 10 then full on bass, half middle and a quater high end. Gives it a nice crunch sound :)

Year: 2004

At uni I formed a super group band that made one EP (recorded at home) and played over zero gigs. Consisting of Simon on vocals, Larry on bass and myself on guitar. We recorded these cover tacks in about 3 hours before we went to the pub never to play again and they turned out pretty good. The With or With You track contains the immortal mockable line from Si to his girlfriend “Love ya babe” at the end, classic.

Maybe one day Pilot might reform to headline Lolapolooza or Knebworth, but more likely these songs will never be heard by anyone, anywhere.

Year: 2004

Another acoustic track to wet the ears with. The tune is influenced a lot by early Pearl Jam tracks and has some rough lyrics but they aren’t included on this demo because they sounds rubbish when I sung. It’s got a couple of good chord sequences in it and would sound pretty good on an electric with rediculous overdrive.

For reference the reason the music is listed as “Elliot” is because when I first started playing music, this was the name of the garage band I had. Our bass player Dom (Who now plays bass for Ten Bears) had a Trace Elliot amp so we took the name from that. We also thought it might be cool if we got the crowd to point at the stage and shout “Elliot” in an E.T. kind of way. I still think that would be cool :D

If I had to stick my music in to a genre I would say “Depressing” or “Badly sung” one or the other, possibly both in a hybrid “Badly-Depressing” mash up. The first tune is one from mid collection that sounds good and is influenced clearly from my Turin Breaks listening phase. I would also like to point out that the “strings” in this track are actually me humming, i know hard to believe but there it is. Enjoy “Now and then”, sorry about the over use of “quotes”.
