I’ve recently been having a look around Adobe Creative Suite 4 and specifically how we can utilise some of its features to further develop the working relationship between our offices in the UK and Malaysia.

One notable addition to the latest incarnation of Adobe goodies is a “Share My Screen…” option from the file drop down. I gave it a try and believe that you should too! The product it links to is a ready made solution for communicating development ideas, concepts, and working practices across the world.

I’ve been working on a Windows Service for one of our projects recently and came to what I’m sure others have encountered and that is creating the installer without the need for command prompt.

I’ve been using Visual Studio 2008 to develop the project and as you may or may not know you need to install a windows service in order to test it, you cannot debug and test direct from VS. Microsoft have nicely packaged InstallUtil.exe which can be used from the VS command prompt to install your service and get it up and running.

As you have probably heard that Chancellor, Alistair Darling, has reduced the rate of VAT from 17.5% to 15%. Whilst this is fab for the public, it is going to cause a bit of a nightmare to brands as they would have to change their e-commerce sites, banners, Google Ad-words and a range of online and offline communications.

Importantly, if e-commerce sites do not act fast, there could be the danger that they could be losing customers by wrongly charging them and more worryingly, they could be on the wrong side of the law by charging the incorrect VAT rate.

Google has given another push to the search engine world to make it more useful to users who regularly use the site. This step towards social search allows people to make notes on searches and sites in order help each other find the most useful results rather than following the prescribed algorithm.

This means that the future of search lies not in the keywords or clever content mechanisms of the present but more in the usefulness and actual relevancy people find in the pages they see.

Microsoft has launched a new interface for its XBOX 360 gaming console. In order to compete with the Nintendo Wii community, Microsoft has launched it’s own Avatar which is linked with gamers Live Passport account meaning they can use this on whatever console they play.
